After years of taking pictures, I have decided to put some time and effort into improving my skills and knowledge of photography. I hope to document and share my progress along the way. I love pictures, the memories that they capture and stories they tell. Looking back through the photos that I have taken through the years inspires me to continue to document our adventure through pictures.
My Camera
I purchased a Nikon D40 SLR camera in November 2007 before our family went on a trip to Japan to visit friends. I have always just shot in auto mode, until December 2009. I’m determined to move beyond the basics and have now taken a few classes on digital SLR photography. Now I just need to find more time to experiment.
Update: I upgraded cameras in October 2010 to the Nikon D90. I am still learning a lot about all the additional features of this model. Some of my reasons for upgrading included the higher ISO settings, the movie mode, and the compatibility to auto-focus a wider variety of lenses. I am happy to report that so far I am absolutely loving this camera!!
Photo Editing
I also purchased Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 around Christmas 2009 and have been working my way through that photo editing program. It is very overwhelming, but I feel like I have come so far already. I’m really excited about what I’ve been learning, mostly from other bloggers! It’s amazing how photos can be tweaked and improved in this program.
