Livin’ with “Gangsta” Kids

I decided to write a post about some of the difficulties we have as parents in this modern world.  Of course, like most parents, we think that  our kids are pretty special and they bring us a lot of joy.  But along with the joy comes certain frustrations.   In the case of our younger two children, it is their gangsta behaviors that often cause us the greatest concern.  It is not always easy livin’ with gangsta kids.

Oh sure, sometimes they go outside and do “normal” kid stuff…like swinging on rope swings.

They seem to enjoy doing these simple outdoor activities.

And it all seems so wholesome and healthy.

Playing outside cooperatively, enjoying the great outdoors, experiencing the wide open spaces…

But the reality is that our kids have a “gangsta” side to them.  If you are unfamiliar with the term, Urban Dictionary defines

“gangsta” as:

“One who willfully promotes and participates in destructive and self-serving culture in an effort to project a particular image of ‘toughness’ or to make oneself intimidating.  Willingness to blatantly and horrifically misuse English is a necessity, as is a low IQ and sub-par education (or at least the appearance thereof).”

Unfortunately, this sometimes accurately describes our kids when they are not outside doing all that “normal” kid stuff.  They are total gangstas…

….often listening to loud music, dancing with their pants hanging down, and just generally acting tough.

As parents, most of the time we are at a loss to figure out what to do with these gangsta kids.  So, we just sit around watching and putting up with them…

and laughing…a LOT.  Yeah, it ain’t always easy livin’ with gangsta kids, but they sure are entertaining on a Saturday night!
